Irrigation has been practised worldwide for thousands of years and irrigated agriculture is one of the biggest users of water in the world. Although irrigation systems and methods have developed through history, much improvement can still be done, especially with regards to water efficiency. Freshwater has become a depleting resource and the demand for it is only increasing.
